Hurghada International Airport (IATA: HRG) serves the city of Hurghada in Egypt. It sits five kilometers southwest of El Dahar, the capital of Hurghada.

This facility is Egypt's second busiest airport, behind Cairo International Airport, and a popular destination for leisure travelers flying in from the European Union.

History of Hurghada International Airport

In the 1980s, a former military airport was converted into Hurghada International Airport. Since then, Hurghada airport has seen a succession of structural developments.

Currently, the airport has two terminals. The new terminal's three levels include a total of 92,000 square meters. The departure hall features 72 check-in counters, 20 departure gates, and a duty-free arcade.

About Hurghada, Egypt

Hurghada was founded at the turn of the twentieth century. For decades, it was a tiny fishing town. Nonetheless, due to Egyptian and foreign investment beginning in the 1980s, it has developed into a significant Red Sea resort.

Holiday resorts and hotels provide services for windsurfing, kitesurfing, yachting, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Aside from its beaches, the city is well-known for its nightlife, watersports, and pleasant weather.

Hurghada spans roughly 36 kilometers along the shore but does not penetrate far into the neighboring desert. Visitors from Cairo, the Delta, and Upper Egypt go to the resort, which hosts European tourists on prearranged vacations.
